Would Leeds be wasting their time raising bid for Rangers’ Josh Windass?

Championship giants Leeds United have seen a £500,000 bid for Josh Windass rejected with the Scottish Premiership giants Rangers refusing to sell.

Josh Windass is still not universally popular among the Ibrox faithful but it appears that the Rangers midfielder does have his fair share of admirers from south of the border.

Former Accrington Stanley prospect Windass has been one of the Gers’ star men since Graeme Murty was promoted to first-team manager in the place of Pedro Caixinha back in October, scoring six times in 11 games during a prolific spell over the festive period.

And it appears that form has attracted interest from elsewhere.

The Daily Record (live blog, 8.28am) states that Preston North End and Leeds United have seen £500,000 bids rejected. And now Hull City, where Windass’ dad Dean is a club legend, have joined the race with Nigel Adkins making a trip to Ibrox this week to watch the 24-year-old in action.

Leeds’ interest in Windass is certainly intriguing as the classy midfielder would offer something different to Thomas Christiansen’s side. It appears that the Whites are looking for more of a goal threat in the centre of the park and Windass, who scored 15 league goals for Accrington in 2015/16, would provide that.

As would Blackburn Rovers’ Bradley Dack, another prolific midfielder Leeds have their eye on according to the Sun (22nd January, page 51).

And while owner Andrea Radrizzani seems a little unwilling to invest big in new players, Leeds would not struggle to double their £500,000 bid.

The question, however, is whether a new approach is even worth their time. The Daily Record understands that Rangers are determined to keep hold of Windass and he too would rather stay at Ibrox.

With a week until the window slams shut, Leeds do not have time to waste.
