Tottenham Hotspur youngster Statham is reportedly a target for Nottingham Forest and Norwich City, as well as League One Sunderland.
After losing Reo Griffiths and Keanan Bennetts last summer, Tottenham Hotspur could be about to bid farewell to another of their most exciting young talents.
According to the Mirror, 18-year-old defender Maxwell Statham is facing an uncertain future in North London despite being promoted to train with Spurs’ first-team squad this week.
The teenager will be a free agent this summer as things stand, given that he is yet to agree professional terms. And it is understood that Sunderland, Nottingham Forest and Norwich City are all interested.
But which club would be the best destination for the teenage Statham?
Joining Sunderland would not be a bad idea, regardless of whether they are playing Championship or League One football next season.
After all, Black Cats boss Jack Ross has shown a willingness to throw youngsters in at the deep end this season. 20-year-old Josh Maja was made the club’s first-choice striker and he rewarded Ross with 15 goals in 24 league games before leaving for Bordeaux in January.
Denver Hume, Bali Mumba, Benji Kimpioka have also been given their chance in the first-team. So, if Statham swaps North London for Wearside, he should be confident that he would have a manager who believes in him.
