Scottish Premiership champions Celtic and Swansea City have been linked with a swoop for Spanish second tier striker Borja Iglesias.
Borja Iglesias may only be plying his trade in the second tier of Spanish football but the Real Zaragoza striker’s form this season may be the precursor to a big summer move.
And links with Celtic certainly carry plenty of intrigue. Not just because Iglesias’ arrival is likely to ramp up speculation about the future of Moussa Dembele or PSG loanee Odsonne Edouard, but because he is different to the strikers already at Brendan Rodgers’ disposal.
Standing at 6ft 2ins, Iglesias is taller than any of the forwards currently plying their trade at Parkhead and would give Celtic a more old-school presence in attack.
Iglesias is a striker who would allow Celtic, whose possession-based ploy has stagnated somewhat this season, to play a more direct style thanks to his strength in the air and ability to lead a line on his own.
The Spaniard, who is on loan at Zaragoza from Celta Vigo, would therefore give Rodgers a Plan B – which could come in handy as teams are starting slowly but surely to find ways to stop or at least frustrate the champions-elect.
That is not to say Iglesias is nothing but a targetman, however. He still possesses a silky touch and clever movement so supporters shouldn’t be too worried that he be Celtic’s answer to, say, Christian Benteke who failed miserably under Rodgers at Liverpool.
