Ryan Yates is now well down the pecking order under Aitor Karanka after Championship hopefuls Nottingham Forest signed Claudio Yacob.

What more does Ryan Yates have to do to get a chance at Nottingham Forest?

The young midfielder was terrific during a loan spell at Scunthorpe United in the first half of 2018 and stood out for Forest during pre-season, too, notably scoring the winner in a clash against the Iron in July.

Back in the summer, Aitor Karanka admitted that he had expected to send Yates out on loan. But the dynamic midfielder’s excellent displays had changed his mind and seemingly paved the way for a run in the first-team, as reported by the Nottingham Post.

That was then, however. And now, the 20-year-old has been shunted down the pecking order after being denied a single Championship appearance in the first six games of 2018/19.

Despite his obvious talent and potential, Karanka has instead opted to sign Panagiotis Tachtsidis and Claudio Yacob on free transfers, leaving Yates possibly wondering where his next chance is coming from.

According to the Nottingham Post, he could now be allowed to leave on loan in January but, for the next four months, he is stuck in limbo.

And Forest fans are far from impressed by the club’s treatment of one of their most promising players.
