Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are reportedly close to signing Daniel Arzani on loan from Manchester City.

Scott McDonald is the right person to ask about rumoured Celtic addition Daniel Arzani.

The 34-year-old striker was a seasoned Australian international so obviously keeps a keen eye on events back home. And he also knows how to succeed at Celtic, scoring 51 goals in 88 league games for the club while winning both the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup.

Now, 19-year-old wonder kid Arzani looks set to become the fourth Australian footballer to represent Celtic, following in the footsteps of McDonald, Mark Viduka and Tom Rogic.

According to the Daily Record, Brendan Rodgers’ side will loan Arzani for two seasons once he completes his move to Premier League champions Manchester City from A-League team Melbourne City.

And, in the eyes of McDonald, his young compatriot could make a big impact in green and white.

“Daniel is one of the most exciting players to come out of Australia in terms of natural talent. It could be a brilliant coup for Celtic because there is a lot of interest in him,” McDonald told the Daily Record (live blog, 7.49am) of Arzani.

“He has bags of potential but won’t be ready to go straight in. Even though he’s gone to the World Cup and impressed he needs to tighten up his game.

“That’s one of the first things Brendan Rodgers will be touching on when he arrives but he’ll put bums on seats when he plays. Most definitely.”

Arzani was named the A-League’s Young Player of the Year and was also named in the Team of the Season in 2017. The gifted winger also featured in all three of Australia’s games at this summer’s World Cup.
