Rodgers wanted Daniel Wass in 2015, is £4m deal possible for Celtic?

Scottish Premiership giants Celtic could lose both Tom Rogic and Stuart Armstrong, so Brendan Rodgers’ ex Liverpool target Daniel Wass may be an option.

If Celta Vigo want to keep hold of their Danish international midfielder Daniel Wass beyond this season, they are not in a particularly strong position.

As reported by The Sun, Wass’ contract runs out in the summer of 2019 so could be available for a cut-price fee of £4 million – a figure which has Crystal Palace, Leicester and Swansea City flocking to the Balaidos.

But, for such an affordable fee, a Celtic side who could do with a player of Wass’ creativity and competitiveness in the centre of the park should consider throwing themselves head-first into the race.

Particularly with doubts about the future of contract rebel Tom Rogic (below) and the out-of-form Stuart Armstrong, who the Daily Record believes has a reduced price-tag this summer of £7 million.

Former Benfica and Evian midfielder Wass, however, has the all-round skillset to replace either Rogic or Armstrong in Celtic’s side. The versatile 28-year-old has been one of the most underrated performers in La Liga since he joined Celta in 2015 and is in excellent form again this season with four goals and seven assists to his name.

He is a hard-working, adaptable player who has an eye for the spectacular too – see his glorious chip in the 2-2 draw with Real Madrid back in January. In fact, you could go as far as to say that Wass is cut from the same cloth as Rogic or Armstrong (below) – and his signing would reduce the impact of either player’s departure.

Interestingly, The Express claimed that Rodgers was keen to bring Wass to Liverpool before he joined Celta and was quoted £3.5 million.

So his potential availability this summer could give the Celtic manager an option.
