Leeds United reportedly want to sign Ireland winger Callum O’Dowda from Championship rivals Bristol City.

Leeds United would be signing a player with a lot of potential if they finally seal a deal for Callum O’Dowda this summer. As the winger himself has told the Republic of Ireland’s official website, he is just getting started.

The Mirror (21 May, page 49) claims that Leeds are keen to bring O’Dowda to Elland Road from Bristol City this summer after failing in an attempt to sign the £10 million-rated wide man during the January transfer window.

The former Oxford forward produced five goals and five assists last season and Leeds apparently see him as an alternative to top target Daniel James, who now appears set for bigger and arguably better things.

O’Dowda has gone from strength to strength under Lee Johnson at Bristol City but, speaking ahead of Ireland’s Euro 2020 qualifiers against Denmark and Gibraltar, the 24-year-old believes he has the potential to become so much more effective.

“I know that I’ve just turned 24 but I think that I still have a lot of potential to kick on. There is still a lot more to come from myself,” he said.

“Whether that is left wing, right wing or through the middle, I think that I can use my pace to get in behind and be more affective there. I’m at my best when running with the ball and trying to get past people.

“This season I’ve noticed how quick I actually am and that is what I need to use on the pitch. I know that there is still a lot more to come.”

O’Dowda has just 12 months remaining on his contract at Ashton Gate so Bristol City might be forced to sell if Leeds meet their £10 million valuation over the next few weeks or months.
