Rangers may never have a better chance to sign James Morrison

James Morrison has always dreamed of playing at Ibrox and Rangers should act with his West Bromwich Albion contract expiring.

If Rangers want to hand James Morrison his dream move to Ibrox, they may never get a better chance.

The 31-year-old Scotland midfielder is a born and bred Rangers fanatic who has not been shy about expressing an interest in making the move to Glasgow at some point in his career.

“I could definitely see myself playing in Scotland. I’m a bit of a Rangers man so it would be nice to play there one day,” Morrison told the Daily Express back in 2011. “One day in the future, who knows.”

And could his wait come to an end this summer? Well, it all depends on whether Rangers seize their chance to sign a player who, in Scotland’s top flight, would surely be a standout performer.

As reported by the Express and Star, Morrison might never play again for West Brom with an injury ruling him out for most of the season and his contract due to expire at the end of the campaign.

And if Rangers made a move to offer Morrison a fresh start away from The Hawthorns, you would not bet against the former Middlesbrough youngster grabbing it with both hands.

The question, however, is whether the Gers really need him. Central midfield is arguably the strongest area of Graeme Murty’s squad with Ryan Jack (below), Graham Dorrans, Greg Docherty, Josh Windass and Andy Halliday already at the manager’s disposal.

But Niko Kranjcar’s contract will expire in the summer while Sean Goss will not be allowed to make his loan move from QPR permanent, meaning there will be a hole in Rangers’ squad that the signing of Morrison would fill immediately.

This is a chance Rangers might not get again.
