Scottish Premiership powerhouses Rangers were linked with Diego Fabbrini in 2016 and the midfielder is surely heading out of Birmingham City.
Diego Fabbrini is in a rather unenviable position right now.
According to the Birmingham Mail, the 28-year-old Birmingham City midfielder is training on his own after being informed that he is not part of Garry Monk’s plans going forward. The one-time Italian international is desperate to leave St Andrews before the end of the month.
But with a lack of offers on the table, he is two weeks away from being stuck in the reserves for the next five months. So should a Rangers side who were linked in 2016 rescue him from his Second City nightmare?
According to the Daily Record, Rangers were offered the chance to sign Fabbrini when a midfielder was at the top of their wishlist after the departure of Joey Barton and injuries to Jordan Rossiter, Matt Crooks and Niko Kranjcar.
And though central midfield is arguably the strongest area of Rangers’ squad these days under Steven Gerrard, the Glasgow giants are just two games away from the Europa League proper and they need all the depth they can get if they are to compete on a number of fronts next season.
Fabbrini would not be a regular starter at Ibrox. But with Graham Dorrans and Jordan Rossiter set for spells on the sidelines, Ryan Jack prone to suspensions and Ovie Ejaria dividing opinion, there could be room for one more midfielder.
