Rangers have missed Steven Davis at Ibrox ever since he joined Premier League Southampton in 2012, but could Greg Docherty replace him at last?

There can be no questions now about why Rangers spent so long in the January transfer window trying to tempt Hamilton Academical into selling Greg Docherty.
Rangers made a number of approaches for the 22-year-old midfielder before finally bowing down to Hamilton’s demands and paying £675,000, as reported by the Scotsman. And, on the evidence of his first seven appearances for Graeme Murty’s side, that fee looks like pocket change already.
Docherty has wasted no time in becoming a firm fans’ favourite at Ibrox. And his dynamic, energetic performances in the centre of the park have some supporters proclaiming him already as the second coming of one Steven Davis.

Docherty has a long way to go before he can replace the former captain at Ibrox. After all, Davis won three successive league titles at Rangers and remains a modern club legend despite jumping ship and joining Southampton when the club were demoted to the fourth tier of Scottish football back in 2012.
But Docherty, a player who draws a fine balance between technique and tenacity, is certainly similar from a stylistic point of view. Some are even going as far as to say he is like a young Barry Ferguson, strutting his stuff at Ibrox.

The future looks bright, then, for Docherty in Rangers’ royal blue.
