Queens Park Rangers would not let Nedum Onuoha leave Loftus Road to sign for Scottish Premiership giants Celtic in January 2017.

Celtic made a surprise move to sign QPR captain Nedum Onouha during the final days of the January 2017 transfer window.
According to the Telegraph, Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers was keen to add a powerful and experienced centre-back to his squad. But, understandably, QPR did not want to see their skipper leave midway through the season and demanded a fee Celtic simply could not pay, so said Glasgow Live.

Flash forward 18 months, however, and perhaps Onuoha should be under consideration again.
Because Get West London reports that the former Manchester City and Sunderland defender will be a free agent this summer. It is understood that Onuoha is in talks with QPR about a new contract at Loftus Road but, as it stands, nothing has been agreed.

So will Celtic take the chance to sign a player they could not afford before? At 31, Onuoha’s best days are behind him, but he has still been one of QPR’s most impressive performers this season with 27 Championship starts under his belt.
And considering that there are doubts about the futures of Jozo Simunovic, Erik Sviatchenko and Dedryck Boyata at Parkhead right now, Onuoha could be the kind of low cost, low risk signing that would offer some depth to Rodgers’ squad.
His ability to fill in a right-back when required could come in handy, too.
