Championship giants Leeds United tried in vain to bring Michal Krmencik to Elland Road from Czech side Viktoria Plzen last month.

Prolific Viktoria Plzen striker Michal Krmencik was a man in demand during the January transfer window.
Wolves and Aston Villa were interested in the Czech Republic international according to Jutarnji List, while The Mail stated that Newcastle United were hoping to strike a £10 million deal to bring him to St James’ Park.
And according to Plzen’s very own CEO, Leeds United were keen too, but the club did not want to sell their top scorer and talisman midway through the season with a league title in their sights.

“In the summer (of 2017), Slavia Prague came in, Leeds in the winter, then Montpellier, Bordeaux, eventually Newcastle .The bids were extraordinary,” Adolf Sadek told Lidovky.
And less than a month after the January transfer window slammed shut, Plzen’s decision to rebuff Leeds’ advances for the 24-year-old is already looking like a very good one.
Krmencik scored the opening goal in a 2-0 win against Partizan Belgrade on Thursday night, helping fire his side into the round of 16 of the Europa League.

This was Krmencik’s 17th goal in 20 games for club and country across 2017/18 and justified in one moment exactly why Plzen were refusing to let him leave for Elland Road during the January transfer window.
His value will surely have increased following this latest crucial strike, meaning Leeds would have to part with even more money if they are still keen in the summer.
