Nottingham Forest are following Wolves’ lead but will the potential signing of Nikola Vukcevic help make them Championship title contenders?

There is a real buzz of optimism around Nottingham Forest right now and you cannot blame the fans for getting a little ahead of themselves.

Super-agent Jorge Mendes appears to have taken a special interest in another of English football’s fallen giants, after helping Wolves cruise to the Championship title last season by bringing a whole host of his talented clients to Molineux.

Diogo Goncalves and Joao Carvalho have arrived at Forest from Benfica with Mendes’ help already; the latter costing a club-record £13 million.

And A Bola is now reporting that another Primeira Liga star could be heading to the City Ground. It is understood that Mendes is driving a deal that could see Braga midfielder Nikola Vukcevic join Nottingham Forest as soon as next Wednesday.

The 26-year-old Montenegro international was one of the standout midfielders in Portuguese football in 2017/18 and it is understood that his release clause stands at around £13 million. Could Forest match the fee they paid for Carvalho?

If they do, expect Nottingham Forest fans to ramp up their excitement. After watching Wolves smash the second tier with Mendes’ signings on the front line, Forest will be heavily fancied to follow their lead.

And Vukcevic’s arrival would be another show of ambition from a side who have underachieved far too much in recent years.
