Wolverhampton Wanderers made an ambitious move to lure Porto striker Aboubakar to the Championship last summer after a prolific season with Besiktas.

The prospect of Vincent Aboubakar joining Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2017 looked fanciful at best.
Aboubakar had fired Besiktas to the 2016/17 Turkish Super Lig title with 18 goals to his name and was returning to parent club Porto in the form of his life. But, according to Goal, this did not stop Wolves from making an ambitious move to bring the Cameroonian hitman to England’s second tier in July.
Flash forward nine months, however, and no one would be laughing if Wolves decided to renew their interest in one of Europe’s hottest strikers.

Wolves were a mid-table Championship side last season managed by Paul Lambert and boasting rather limited players like Jack Price, Lee Evans and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson.
These days, however, Wolves are soaring to the Championship title and playing some of the best football the Championship has ever seen under Nuno Espirito Santo. In Ruben Neves, Willy Boly and Diogo Jota, the Black Country side can call upon a number of players clearly too good for England’s second tier.
Aboubakar certainly fits the bill. The former Lorient youngster has pummelled 23 goals in 29 games for Porto in all competitions, including 15 in the league as Sergio Conceicao’s men aim to end their five year wait for a league title.

Wolves certainly have the funds and the pulling power to lure Aboubakar to Molineux, where former Porto stars Neves, Jota and Boly are already plying their trade.
And with the club’s Chinese owners keen to make a statement, this would be a big one.
