Charly Musonda made just eight appearances for Scottish Premiership champions Celtic before returning to Premier League powerhouses Chelsea.
Charly Musonda’s loan spell at Celtic in the second half of last season is best left forgotten.
Brendan Rodgers claimed that the Scottish Premiership champions had fought off competition from 23 clubs all over Europe for the signature of one of the most talented young players to emerge from Chelsea in many a year.
But a spell that was supposed to catapult the fleet-footed Belgian starlet into the limelight only served to leave his reputation in tatters.
Musonda’s spell at Parkhead came to an end just four months into his year-and-a-half deal.
He made just eight appearances for Celtic and, for whatever reason, slipped rapidly down Rodgers’ pecking order.
So have things got much better for Musonda since? Not quite. 11 months after returning to Stamford Bridge, the Belgian U21 international has not played a single first-team game.
He moved to Vitesse Arnhem on another loan spell last summer but, once again, he has failed to live up to expectations. A knee injury means Musonda has not made a single Eredivisie appearance in 2018/19 and he has only been included in the match day squad on one occasion.
As a result, Chelsea have now decided to re-call the one-time wonder-kid (Goal) and, at the age of 22, he is in danger of being left by the wayside.
