Goal-shy Premier League duo Newcastle United and Southampton are both keen on Feyenoord striker Jorgensen but he’s bang out of form in the Eredivisie.
Nicolai Jorgensen is a striker in demand with a number of Premier League sides chasing the Feyenoord target man.
Newcastle United made a number of approaches in the January transfer window but failed to get their man as Feyenoord were demanding £20 million, a club-record fee that was £5 million more than the Magpies were prepared to offer.
But a player who netted 21 goals and set up 11 more to inspire the Rotterdam giants to the title for the first time since 1999 has been a shadow of his best in recent weeks.
In fact, Jorgensen has not hit the net since the 5-1 thrashing of Roda JC on Christmas Eve. That means he has gone ten games without a league goal – equating to 853 barren minutes.
Now, both Newcastle and Southampton have endured more than their fair share of out-of-form strikers in recent months with the likes of Joselu, Manolo Gabbiadini, Dwight Gayle and Shane Long (below) struggling in front of goal.
So it would make little sense to invest around £20 million on Jorgensen if he carries his current form into the end of the season.
