Adam Armstrong has been prolific since leaving Newcastle United for League One Blackburn Rovers on loan – does he deserve a Premier League chance?

Newcastle United have averaged less than a goal per game in the Premier League this season but loanee Adam Armstrong is not having the same problems in the final third.

The homegrown 21-year-old is enjoying yet another loan spell, this time at Blackburn Rovers, and is taking to League One by storm yet again.

He scored four goals and set up two more for Rovers in February, firing Tony Mowbray’s side to the top of the table and earning the third tier Player of the Month award to boot.

No wonder Newcastle fans are demanding once again that Armstrong be given his long-awaited opportunity in the first team next season.

It has been at least five years since the Magpies fans had one to call their own, after all, and the Chapel House-born Armstrong has only been handed one league start for the Tyneside giants since making his first-team debut back in 2013/14.

But Armstrong is an instinctive and ruthless finisher if fit and firing. He might have struggled at Barnsley and Bolton but a stunning 20-goal season at Coventry City in 2015/16 showed just how lethal he can be when used in the right way.

Blackburn boss Mowbray has typically utilised Armstrong in a front two and is reaping the rewards right now with five goals in seven starts.

But will this be enough for Rafa Benitez to give him a chance at last?
