Scottish Premiership champions Celtic failed to sign Mohamed Elyounoussi but now Premier League trio Arsenal, Southampton and Leicester City are keen.
Mohamed Elyounoussi has come a long way since he was first linked with Celtic in the winter of 2016.
The Scottish champions had signed one Scandinavian star that January with Erik Sviatchenko arriving from Denmark and the Sun claims that Celtic had their eyes on another – the Molde winger Elyounoussi.
The Hoops had found out just how good the Norway international was first hand. He was fantastic as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side beat Celtic twice in the group stage of that season’s Europa League and The Sun claims he was worth £2 million.
No deal occurred, of course, but if Brendan Rodgers tuned into Manchester City’s 2-1 Champions League defeat to Basel on Wednesday night, he could do worse than instruct Celtic to renew their interest in a player who is getting better and better.
Elyounoussi was the Man of the Match at The Etihad, scoring once and setting up the other as Basel turned a dead-rubber contest into a memorable result. In total, the 23-year-old has seven goals and 13 assists this season.
But while he would cost far more than £2 million these days, Elyounoussi should still be on Celtic’s radar, especially with their attack looking a little stale this season and with Patrick Roberts’ loan spell from Manchester City coming to an end in a few months’ time.
Elyounoussi was an exciting prospect back in 2016. Now, he would be one of the best players in Scotland.
