Leeds United loaned Luke Murphy to Championship rivals Burton Albion at the start of the season.

It seems a long time ago since Leeds United made Crewe Alexandra midfielder Luke Murphy their first £1 million signing in eight years back in 2013, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post.
Yet while Murphy never lived up to expectations at Elland Road, he is still contracted to the club five years on, albeit now on a loan spell at relegation threatened Burton Albion.
But it speaks volumes about just how poor Leeds’ current midfield options have been of late that a number of supporters would welcome the return of a player who appeared to be little else than the jack of all trades, master of very little in West Yorkshire.

Eunan O’Kane (above) has been heavily criticised of late for poor performances and a lack of discipline, see that petulant straight red card against Ipswich Town, while academy graduates Kalvin Phillips and Ronaldo Vieira have not been exempt from condemnation either.
With Paul Heckingbottom now at the helm, there may be a chance that Murphy will be offered a clean slate when the season ends. After all, the former Barnsley boss is in no position to write players off before he has seen them in action.

And while Murphy has not exactly set the world alight at Burton, some Leeds fans would be pleased to give him the opportunity to show exactly why they parted with £1 million all those years ago.
