Has Chelsea’s Premier League defender Kenneth Omeruo hinted that he wants to join Lewis Baker and Jamal Blackman at Leeds United?

Could Kenneth Omeruo be on his way to Leeds United?

After Lewis Baker and Jamal Blackman left Chelsea for Elland Road on season-long loan deals, Nigeria’s World Cup defender Omeruo has hinted that he might not be far behind.

And it is common knowledge that Leeds are hoping to sign another defender this summer after missing out on Kyle Bartley, meaning it would not be the biggest surprise of the transfer window if the Whites were to ask for another favour from the Stamford Bridge giants.

Omeruo would be the third Premier League centre-back to arrive in West Yorkshire in three years, following in the footsteps of Bartley and Matthew Pennington. But could the 24-year-old be the best of the lot?

He certainly has the potential. Despite failing to make a single Premier League appearance in six years at Chelsea, Omeruo has managed to accrue 40, yes 40, international caps in that time.

After bursting on to the scene at the 2014 World Cup, Omeruo was arguably even more impressive in Russia despite Nigeria’s failure to advance beyond the group stage. Athletic, aggressive and excellent in the air, the 6ft 1ins defender resembles the kind of commanding figure who would fill that gap next to Pontus Jansson in Leeds’ back line.

Omeruo has Championship experience, too, making 36 appearances over two loan spells at Middlesbrough between 2013 and 2015.

So, with Omeruo once again set to find the route into Chelsea’s first-team blocked, he could be the answer to Leeds’ prayers.
