Mallik Wilks has certainly shown his talent during a loan spell at Doncaster Rovers. The Leeds United striker has made a massive impact on loan at the League One club, scoring three times in eight games and inspiring Saturday’s impressive 4-1 away win at a previously unbeaten Walsall.

Wilks has been viewed as one of the most highly-rated prospects in Leeds’ academy for a while now. But there is a chance that the Chapeltown-born 19-year-old will never make his league debut for Marcelo Bielsa’s men.

The striker’s contract expires at the end of the season. And Doncaster manager Grant McCann has raised eyebrows by suggesting that Wilks has no future at Elland Road.

“My personal opinion is he will not ever get a chance at Leeds. I think that they will strengthen again in January and they are strong up there (in attack), with the boy Tyler Roberts. It is going to be difficult for Mallik,” McCann told the Yorkshire Post.

“If it was my decision, I would sign him today as he has huge potential.”

Maybe McCann is right. According to Turkish Football, Leeds have continued to send scouts to watch Kasimpasa’s £3.6 million-rated talisman Mbaye Diagne in recent weeks, having held talks with his representatives over the summer.

Diagne has scored seven goals in just five Super Lig appearances this season. And the report adds that Leeds will watch the Senegal international again this weekend.

Now, with Diagne keen on a move to England, don’t rule out him arriving in January. This would push Wilks even further down the pecking order with Tyler Roberts, Patrick Bamford and Kemar Roofe already in West Yorkshire.

Maybe Wilks would be better off leaving.
