Scottish Premiership giants Rangers have some exciting plans for January – with Brighton winger Jamie Murphy the first to arrive at Ibrox.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha is seen during the Betfred League Cup Semi Final between Rangers and Motherwell at Hampden Park on October 22, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Rangers transformed their entire squad in a matter of weeks at the start of the summer, bringing in eight new permanent signings by the first week of July.

It quickly became apparent, however, that the majority of those imported additions brought to Ibrox by Pedro Caixinha simply weren’t going to succeed in Scottish football.

Consequently, Director of Football Mark Allen has been forced to face up to a difficult transfer window at the Scottish giants, tasked with not only bringing in better players but also finding a way to get those flops off the club’s books.

And, so far, Rangers should be commended for their efforts. They have acted in double quick time to secure the signing of boyhood Gers fan Jamie Murphy from Brighton, a £1.4 million deal landing the club one of their most high-profile and exciting signings in recent memory, as reported by the Daily Record.

While Murphy edges closer to Ibrox, however, one player looks to be on the way out. Carlos Pena, who has been a big disappointment following his £2.2 million move, looks set to reunite with Caixinha in Mexico with Cruz Azul landing him on loan with an option to buy, according to the Daily Record.

And the Scottish Sun adds that Pena (below) will not be the only summer signing leaving Ibrox this month with the club hoping to get rid of Eduardo Herrera, Bruno Alves, Fabio Cardoso and the seldom-seen Dalcio – all players who have struggled to settle in half a season in Scotland.

Meanwhile, Aaron Nemane, the teenage winger who joined from Manchester City, is set to leave at the end of his loan spell after failing to make an appearance.

And in their place, Rangers are hoping to sign young, promising players who know the league; the sort of addition they should have been making back in the summer. Kilmarnock winger Jordan Jones and Hamilton’s 21-year-old Greg Docherty are on their radar.

Rangers, at last, appear to have a cohesive plan in place and are working quickly to put it together.
