Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on Porto captain Hector Herrera, but so are Inter Milan.
Inter Milan showed plenty of ambition in the summer as they attempted to lure Luka Modric to the San Siro. But, after Real Madrid refused to sell the Ballon D’Or front-runner, Inter have been forced to look elsewhere.
And Hector Herrera could be a fine alternative.
According to Calciomercato, Inter sent scouts to watch the Mexican international during Porto’s 1-0 Primeira Liga defeat to Benfica on Sunday. And this looked like a big problem for Tottenham Hotspur, who are also rumoured to be keen on Herrera as a potential successor to Moussa Dembele.
But latest reports from Calciomercato on Friday have provided an update which looks like good news for Mauricio Pochettino.
It is understood that Inter have no places left in their squad for a non-EU player. So Luciano Spaletti’s side, as it stands, have no chance of signing Herrera in January unless they sell one of their current players from outside the continent.
Suddenly Tottenham’s pursuit of one of the World Cup’s standout midfielders could be a little more straightforward.
Herrera is out of contract at the end of this season, but that does not mean Porto will accept a cut-price fee for their influential captain. Record claims that Spurs will have to trigger his £36 million release-clause to bring the midfielder to North London in January.
