Birmingham City will get rid of goalkeeper David Stockdale this summer – which should surely give Championship rivals Leeds United an idea.

Could Garry Monk have just provided the answer to Leeds United’s biggest problem?

A year ago, David Stockdale was celebrating promotion to the Premier League with Brighton and Hove Albion. Now, he has been told he can leave the side that finished 19^th in the Championship.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Birmingham City are set to discard the 32-year-old goalkeeper this summer, just 11 months after they appeared to pull off a major coup by signing him on a free from Brighton.

It is understood that former Leeds manager Monk, who took over at St Andrew’s in March and led the club to safety, wants to rebuild his squad and it seems there is no room for Stockdale.

And this surely provides an opportunity for Leeds to sign the experienced, proven Championship goalkeeper they are crying out for.

The YEP claims that Leeds want an older stopper to provide competition for the highly-rated academy graduate Bailey Peacock-Farrell, who impressed in 10 Championship starts in the final few months of the 2017/18 season.

It is understood that Leeds could get rid of Felix Wiedwald, the German goalkeeper who has struggled badly since joining from Werder Bremen for £500,000, while the future of the veteran Andy Lonergan remains uncertain.

So news that Monk has made Stockdale available should not go unnoticed at Elland Road. Could Leeds have their one-time manager to thank for filling arguably the biggest gap in their current squad?
