Premier League outfit West Ham United have been linked with free-agent Samir Nasri and Sevilla’s La Liga ace Franco Vazquez.
Samir Nasri might have been one of the most talented playmakers in the Premier League during his time with Arsenal and Manchester City, but that feels a long time ago.
It has been reported by The Standard that Nasri, a free-agent after leaving Antalyaspor in January, is training with The Hammers – but his fitness is a major concern given that he hasn’t played a competitive game for 10 months.
The 31-year-old is also understood to want a hefty £80,000 a week – and his reputation for being something of a ‘difficult’ character perhaps doesn’t bode well either. So maybe West Ham would be better served prioritising Franco Vazquez instead.
Tuttomercatoweb reported in October that The Hammers were planning to renew their interest in the £35 million-rated Sevilla midfielder in January, having held talks with his agent over the summer.
Vazquez would offer the skill, creativity and vision that Nasri has made his trademark – and has the added advantage of being younger, fitter and in the form of his life right now.
The 29-year-old Argentina international has set up three goals in 11 La Liga starts for an impressive Sevilla side this season. And while he would obviously cost far more than Nasri, his hefty price-tag should not distract from the fact that he looks like a far more sensible addition to the West Ham squad.
