Jonny Evans has signed for Leicester City from West Brom but why weren’t Premier League duo Everton and Newcastle United making a move?
£3.5million was such a bargain for Jonny Evans that everyone seemed to forget just how much he struggled as West Bromwich Albion finished bottom of the Premier League last season.
Leicester City have now won the race for the Northern Ireland defender, who was available for around ten percent of his market value thanks to a relegation clause in his Baggies’ contract.
But while Leicester fans are toasting one of the best deals the Premier League will see this summer, fans of rival clubs are wondering why they did not go all out to sign Evans for a pocket change fee.
Questions surely have to be asked of both Newcastle United and Everton, who are in the market for centre-halves this summer.
The Mirror also claimed that Everton were preparing a summer bid for the 30-year-old, with the centre of defence arguably the weakest area of the Toffees’ unbalanced squad. Instead, Everton seem to be looking at far more expensive options, which appeared to have left Leicester free to strike what could be a brilliant deal.
