Championship Cardiff City are frontrunners to sign Andre Gray from Premier League outfit Watford – but Everton are also in the running.

Andre Gray enjoyed a promising debut season in the Premier League with Burnley back in 2016/17.

But the £18.5 million club-record fee Watford paid to sign the speedy striker from Turf Moor back in August, according to the BBC, always looked a little steep. And so it has proved.

Gray has far from justified his massive price tag at Vicarage Road, managing just four Premier League goals in 29 appearances and failing to establish himself as the club’s first choice centre-forward ahead of Troy Deeney and Stefano Okaka.

And speculation is now starting to intensify that Gray could be on his way out after just one season.

In the latest odds provided by BetVictor, a Cardiff City side on track for automatic promotion to the top flight with just one game left in the Championship season are 4/1 favourites to sign Gray this summer.

This most likely follows on from reports in Inside Wales Sport which suggested that the former Brentford man could be offered to Neil Warnock’s Bluebirds if they do indeed go up.

Andre Gray of Burnley celebrates scoring his team's second goal during the Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Burnley at Selhurst Park on April 29, 2017 in London, England.

But BetVictor have surprisingly placed Everton as 8/1 second favourites for Gray’s signature this summer.

Despite spending big on Cenk Tosun in January, The Toffees are understood to be looking for another centre-forward and Gray is the sort of powerful, pacey and direct striker that would appeal to Sam Allardyce, should he stay on Merseyside.

Though a record of four goals all season is unlikely to get Everton fans too excited.
