FC Porto’s Primeira Liga champion Moussa Marega is reportedly in talks with West Ham United but what are Everton doing?
Everton have been looking at Porto striker Moussa Marega throughout the last few months, and the 27-year-old showed why the Toffees should make him their marquee striker signing when he scored a well-taken winner against Marco Silva’s side in pre-season last weekend.
But, despite reports from A Bola four months ago claiming that Everton were clear favourites to sign Marega this summer, they are nowhere to be seen as Porto’s top scorer allegedly opens talks with West Ham United.
According to the Mail, West Ham have entered talks about signing Marega for around £22 million. The Malian scored 22 goals in 27 starts last season to end Porto’s five-year wait for a league title, and it is reported that he could be tempted by a move to England, where he would surely lead the line for a West Ham side who lacked a consistent centre-forward under David Moyes.
But surely Everton have got to react.
They too have been linked with a whole host of strikers this summer and, after letting Wayne Rooney go to DC United, have only Cenk Tosun as a proven goal-scorer in attack.
Not only has Marega shown his quality in Portugal, he has also stood out against Everton and highlighted his eye for goal first hand.
So it would be little short of baffling if Everton stand by and let West Ham negotiate a deal without at least challenging.
