Championship crisis club Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing striker Sam Gallagher on loan from Premier League Southampton.

It seems that you would struggle to find a single Aston Villa fan pleased with reports that they are interested in signing Sam Gallagher this summer.
The 22-year-old Southampton striker did not exactly set the world alight a few miles down the road at St Andrews either. He scored a grand total of six goals in 33 Championship games for the Blues.
And, in the eyes of some Villa fans, reports in the Birmingham Mail that Steve Bruce has made Gallagher one of his top targets this summer is yet more proof that the former Sunderland boss is not the man for the job.

Villa may be in a financial mess at the moment but the club’s array of talented youngsters are at least giving the fans something to smile about. Keinan Davis made a real impression in the Championship last season despite a less-than-stellar goal tally, while Rushian Hepburn-Murphy and Callum O’Hare have shown at U23 level that they are ready to make the step up.
But signing Gallagher on loan from Southampton would only serve to benefit the Saints long term, while once again restricting first-team opportunities for Hepburn-Murphy and co.
As one Villa fan points out, is Gallagher really that much better than Davis? And this is without mentioning the fact that signing a 6ft 4ins striker does not exactly suggest that Bruce is aiming to adopt a less direct style of football.
