Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are reportedly interested in signing Tom James from League Two side Yeovil Town this summer.

Celtic poured their heart and soul into trying to sign defender Jack Hendry from Dundee in the January transfer window. But, once he had arrived after weeks of speculation and failed bids, the £1 million defender failed to show why he was so highly-rated by Brendan Rodgers.
Hendry struggled in his first few months at Celtic and it seemed some supporters were losing their patience already, particularly after the 23-year-old was left exposed in a 2-1 defeat to Hibernian in April.
Although any criticism should be tempered by the fact that Hendry was being forced to play in an unfamiliar right-back role – a position he clearly did not take to.

The two-time Scotland intentional is a ball-playing centre-half by trade and right-back is not a position that plays to his strengths. So Hendry should be thrilled to learn that Celtic are reportedly stepping up their pursuit of a player who could bring an end to his days on the flank.

The Daily Record claims that Celtic are eyeing Yeovil Town’s 22-year-old Welshman Tom James with Rodgers keen to add some defensive cover to his side. James is a right-back and therefore is expected to act as a youthful deputy for Mikael Lustig.
If he arrives, this should allow Hendry to concentrate solely on forcing his way into Celtic’s starting XI as a centre-back instead.
