Reading might lose Liam Moore after all, but could Brendan Rodgers’ Scottish Premiership champions Celtic renew their interest?
Liam Moore was at the top of his game heading into the summer of 2017.
The former Leicester City youngster reminded everyone why he was once seen as one of England’s brightest defensive prospects, shining for a Reading side who reached the Championship play-off final.
As a result, Brendan Rodgers, a manager renowned for spotting underrated talents a mile off, was keen to bring Moore to Celtic, with the Daily Record stating that a £5 million move was being considered.
Reading refused to sell, however. But could Celtic renew their interest again this summer, with Moore’s future at the Madejski once again up in the air?
Football London reports that the 25-year-old handed in a transfer request last week to force a move away from Reading, while manager Paul Clement has been quoted saying that Moore is not in the right frame of mind to feature in Friday’s Championship opener against Derby County.
Celtic might have cruised to a seventh straight league title in May but that overshadows a possible weakness at the heart of defence. Jack Hendry is yet to show that he is good enough, while Marvin Compper has barely been seen since arriving in January.
Jozo Simunovic was a shadow of his best in 2017/18 and there remains doubts about Dedryck Boyata’s future with the Belgian – who has attracted plenty of interest – out of contract next year.
Like most of his Reading teammates, Moore’s form dipped last season but Rodgers is the man to get the best out of him again.
