John Terry is a big fan of Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers and just imagine the impact he would make at the Scottish Premiership champions.
Over the last few months, Celtic have never been too far away from the speculation surrounding John Terry’s next destination.
Back in June, Sky Bet had the Scottish Premiership champions at 5/1 to sign the former England captain, who left Aston Villa at the end of last season when his contract expired. And, just a fortnight ago, Terry ‘liked’ a post on Instagram calling on him to sign for the Hoops.
Celtic should now be really considering whether or not to offer Terry the chance to continue his career north of the border.
The five-time Premier League champion is still a free agent after turning down a move to Spartak Moscow. And, if Celtic are willing to match his £60,000-a-week wage demands (Daily Star), they would have a player who could immediately solve the club’s defensive issues.
Celtic have looked shaky at the back and face running into further problems in January, when Dedryck Boyata is free to sign a pre-contract agreement elsewhere and Filip Benkovic could potentially return to parent club Leicester City.
Terry, even on a short-term deal, would have a galvanising effect on and off the pitch. Just imagine the impact he could have on Celtic youngsters Jack Hendry and Kristoffer Ajer for example.
The 37-year-old has already admitted that he has a great deal of respect for Brendan Rodgers, telling the Independent in 2013 that the former Chelsea coach “was brilliant for me, he helped me in many ways”.
The Daily Star adds that Terry would jump at the chance to return to Aston Villa. But, before that happens, Celtic should consider throwing a last-gasp offer on the table.
