Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are reportedly hoping to strengthen their defence by signing Samir Memisevic from Eredivisie outfit FC Groningen.

It seems that Celtic fans would take any centre-back right now.
The Hoops’ defence looked flaky once again on Thursday night as they were held to a 1-1 draw away at Lithuanian champions Suduva in the Europa League play-off. Conceding a very soft goal to cancel out Olivier Ntcham’s strike, the soft-centre that cost Celtic a place in the Champions League against AEK Athens was clear to see once again.
Fortunately, it seems that Brendan Rodgers is hoping to reinforce perhaps the weakest part of his team before the end of August.

According to Fokus, Celtic are interested in Groningen’s Bosnia international Samir Memisevic. The 6ft 1ins 25-year-old has impressed in the Eredivisie over the last two seasons though Groningen have underperformed at the wrong end of the table.
Memisevic is hardly a household name in Glasgow but it seems that the fans just want a centre-back to arrive as soon as possible, particularly with doubts still hanging over the future of want-away Belgian international Dedryck Boyata.
But there are those who are a little uncertain that the rather unknown Memisevic is the man to solve Celtic’s central defensive problems. Either way, The Hoops’ need for defensive additions cannot be debated.
