Aston Villa reportedly wanted to bring Dasilva to the Championship before he joined Bristol City from Premier League Chelsea in August.

Is left-back still a problem position at Aston Villa? Well, not as much as it was.

Neil Taylor looks a shadow of the left-back who shone in the Premier League for Swansea City five or six years ago and the fact that Alan Hutton has often been forced to swap flanks speaks volumes about the rapid decline of the Wales international.

Fortunately, however, the signing of Kortney Hause on loan from Wolves has helped in some regard. The former England U21 ace has played four times for Dean Smith’s side and established himself on the left.

Hause, though, is still far more comfortable at centre-half. So, while Villa have an option to sign him permanently, that does not mean the Midland giants don’t need to add a more natural left-sided defender to their ranks.

As a result, reports from Goal that Chelsea will look to sell Jay Dasilva this summer shouldn’t go unnoticed. Villa expressed an interest in the youngster on the final day of the summer transfer window (the Mirror, live blog, 8.28am) before he joined Bristol City on loan and he should be on their radar again the Blues ready to let him go.

At 20, and with just 11 Championship starts to his name, Dasilva is far from the finished product but that is exactly how Dean Smith likes his players – young and with plenty of potential.

Pacey and attack minded, he would give balance to Villa’s starting XI and allow Hause to form a potentially fearsome partnership with James Chester.
