Lee Tomlin is reportedly set to be sold by Premier League newcomers Cardiff City – but would Championship Nottingham Forest take him back?
If you asked two months ago whether Nottingham Forest fans wanted Lee Tomlin to stay at the City Ground on a permanent basis, you’d have had a challenge finding a supporter who said ‘no’.
And despite the fact that Forest have since brought in three exciting Iberian talents in Diogo Goncalves, Gil Dias and the £13 million record signing Joao Carvalho, it seems that some would still welcome Tomlin back with open arms.
The gifted playmaker spent the second half of last season on loan at Forest from Cardiff City and proved an absolute revelation. Some of his performances were absolutely exquisite, providing vision, class and skills that are well above Championship standard.
But, according to the Nottingham Post, Tomlin wanted to try his hand in the Premier League so returned to Cardiff once their promotion to the top flight was confirmed. You can hardly blame the 29-year-old for wanting to seize his chance at the top level but it seems his decision has now backfired somewhat.
The Sun claim that Tomlin has been told that he is not in Neil Warnock’s plans ahead of the 2018/19 season and will be allowed to leave this summer.
The question now is whether Forest still need him.
