Jack Rodwell is training with Premier League outfit Watford after bidding farewell to League One Sunderland.

It says a lot about the atmosphere at the Stadium of Light right now that Sunderland fans are half-jokingly expecting Jack Rodwell to kick on and establish his reputation as one of England’s most promising players immediately after leaving Wearside.
As reported by the BBC, Sunderland ripped up Rodwell’s contract at the end of last season, bringing an end to four miserable years in the North East.
And despite being linked with clubs in Turkey, Greece and the US, a player who cost Sunderland £10 million in 2014 could reportedly be handed a shock Premier League lifeline.

Sky Sports reports that the former Everton and Manchester City midfielder is training with Watford during their pre-season trip to Austria as he bids to earn a contract at Vicarage Road.
Rodwell, who had been earning £73,000 a week with Sunderland last season, featured in just one Championship game as they finished bottom of the second tier of English football.
Sky Sports add that Rodwell was asked to leave Sunderland on a free in January but he refused to leave and rip up a lucrative contract without a pay-off. So it’s fair to say Rodwell didn’t leave the club with the goodwill of many supporters.
