Bright Enobakhare made just two more starts for Premier League newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers after the EFL Cup defeat at the Etihad last October.
Quite fittingly, young Nigerian striker Enobakhare looked like one of the brightest talents emerging at Molineux when he made his Wolverhampton Wanderers breakthrough in the 2015/16 season.
But, despite making a positive impression under Kenny Jackett and then Paul Lambert, the 20-year-old failed to make the same kind of impact during Nuno Espirito Santo’s debut season in the Black Country.
Enobakhare ended the 2017/18 campaign with just five Championship starts to his name and this was despite the wretched form of Leo Bonatini, the Wolves centre forward who failed to score from early December until the end of the season.
These days, Enobakhare is one of a number of players who were loaned out by Wolves in the summer, alongside the likes of Jordan Graham, Slyvain Dyslandes and Connor Ronan. He is spending the current campaign on loan at Kilmarnock in Scotland.
And maybe one game in particular could be seen as the turning point in Enobakhare’s once promising Wolves career – the EFL Cup clash with Manchester City in October 2017.
The speedy striker started the daunting clash at The Etihad, which Wolves lost on penalties after a goalless draw across 120 minutes. But Enobakhare could have sealed a famous win for the visitors, only to spurn a number of excellent chances including a late one-on-one against Claudio Bravo.
He started just two more games for Wolves after that, the FA Cup draw and replay against Swansea City in January, before being farmed out to Kilmarnock in the summer.
