Jason Holt is reportedly set to leave Glasgow Rangers and work with Mark Warburton again at Queens Park Rangers.

Jason Holt might never have won over each and every Rangers fan but Mark Warburton has never doubted his qualities.

The tenacious midfielder was one of Warburton’s first signings at Ibrox during the summer of 2015 and he could hardly have enjoyed a better debut season under the former Brentford boss. Holt scored 12 goals, the best in his career, as Rangers sealed an emotional return to the Scottish Premiership.

But ever since Warburton was forced out of the door two years ago, Holt’s importance at Ibrox has diminished.

He fell out of favour under Pedro Caixinha and, after spending last season on loan at Fleetwood Town, appears to have no future under Steven Gerrard.

So it is no real surprise that Warburton is now keen to offer the 26-year-old a fresh start. The Scottish Sun claims that Holt, who was left out of Rangers’ pre-season training camp in Portugal, is set to be reunited with his former Ibrox boss at QPR.

Rangers manager Mark Warburton looks on during the Scottish Premier League match between Rangers and Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Ibrox Stadium on December 24, 2016 in Glasgow, Scotland.

“Holty covers distance and gives us so much energy. In training, we just wind him up and let him go. He never stops,” Warburton told the Express in 2016.

“He has an eye for goal and a weight of pass and movement that makes him a tremendous player.”

Holt might never have lived up to Warburton’s praise over the last three years but a reunion at Loftus Road could be exactly what both player and manager need.

His mix of tenacity and technique can only enhance a QPR side who lacked so much bite and presence in the centre of the park during a miserable 2018/19 campaign.
