Wahbi Khazri cannot stop scoring since leaving Championship strugglers Sunderland for a loan spell at Ligue 1 side Rennes.

How Sunderland could do with Wahbi Khazri right now.

Despite a valuable point in a 3-3 draw against local rivals Middlesbrough on Saturday, Chris Coleman’s side are still bottom of the Championship and four points adrift of safety. You wonder how many of the Black Cats’ lives have been used up already.

Scoring goals has been as much an issue as keeping them out at the other end with Lewis Grabban, who departed in January, the only Sunderland player in double figures this season.

And, to make matters worse, Khazri is in the form of his life over in France. The former Bordeaux winger returned to Ligue 1 on loan with Rennes during the summer and has not looked back.

While his parent side stumble towards successive relegations, Khazri has scored eight times in just 15 starts, 16 appearances overall, for Les Rouges et Noirs. He has been their undoubted star man this season and is reminding everyone why Sunderland paid £9 million to bring him to Wearside back in January 2016, as reported by the Guardian.

After inspiring a 2-0 win away at high-flying Lyon last weekend, Khazri was the star of the show once again as Rennes saw off Troyes by the same scoreline. As a result, Sabri Lamouchi’s side are seventh and in with a very good shout of Europa League football.

And, for comparisons sake, it is worth pointing out that Khazri managed just three goals in 35 Premier League games for Sunderland.

He is a man transformed at Rennes and seems like yet another talented player who did not live up to his potential on Wearside.
