Will Sunderland attempt to sign another striker in the January transfer window?

Well, according to manager Jack Ross, this depends largely on whether Duncan Watmore and Charlie Wyke return to full fitness before the turn of the year, as reported by The Chronicle. And, fortunately for the Black Cats, it seems that the attacking duo are both on track to pull on those red and white stripes again once 2019 rolls around.

But could young Andrew Nelson be well placed to challenge Wyke and Watmore for a place in the Sunderland side in the coming weeks and months?

The 21-year-old was expected to force his way into Sunderland’s first-team after an impressive pre-season but an ill-timed injury curtailed his progress. After three months on the sidelines, however, Nelson is back in training – and he didn’t look particularly rusty on Tuesday.

Sunderland’s official Twitter account have posted a video of Nelson in action, and the local lad showed supporters what they’ve got to look forward to with a quite emphatic finish.

Former St Mirren manager Ross has demonstrated that age is but a number at the Stadium of Light this season, allowing Denver Hume, Bali Mumba, Josh Maja and co the chance to establish themselves on Wearside.
