Thomas Goiginger has been linked with Premier League Southampton after helping LASK Linz to second in the Austrian Bundesliga.

LASK Linz have received inquiries for reported £5 million Southampton target Thomas Goiginger, the club’s vice-president Jurgen Werner has told Nachricthen.

The Mail reported last week that the Saints were planning a £5 million bid for the influential forward, who scored 14 goals and produced 17 assists as Linz finished second behind Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga last season.

Goiginger is something of a late bloomer at the age of 26, but Southampton have enjoyed previous success when signing a little-known forward from Austria.

Sadio Mane didn’t do badly at all during his two years at St Mary’s after all.

Speaking to Nachrichten, vice-president Werner has admitted that a number of clubs are interested in Linz’s star man, though there have not been any official offers just yet.

Linz recently lost head coach Oliver Glasner to German outfit Wolfsburg and it remains to be seen whether his departure will influence Goiginger’s decision as he weighs up a move away from his hometown outfit.

The versatile forward, who was recently rewarded with a first ever call-up for the Austria national team, would add some much needed creativity to an erratic Southampton front line.
