Former Ibrox favourite Peter Lovenkrands has been announced as the new reserve team boss of Scottish Premiership giants Rangers.
Peter Lovenkrands will be back at Ibrox next season.
The former Denmark winger was a fan favourite at Rangers as he tore Scottish defences apart at will between 2000 and 2006, winning the Scottish Premiership title on two occasions. And, after an 11-year exile, Lovenkrands returned in May 2017, working under Graeme Murty in Rangers’ academy system.
It seems his work has earned him a promotion. The 38-year-old has officially joined the new backroom staff being put together by Steven Gerrard according to the Daily Record (live blog, 1.59pm), signing a full-time contract to coach the reserve side.
And Rangers fans could not be happier to see Lovenkrands back.
Lovenkrands was initially brought back to Glasgow during the reign of Pedro Caixinha, who wanted coaches with a knowledge and experience of Scottish football. Therefore, the former Rangers favourite could also be of use to Gerrard, who is embarking on his maiden managerial voyage, having spent all of his playing career south of the border at Liverpool.
A number of exciting young talents have emerged from Auchenhowie in recent times and Lovenkrands will be hoping that the likes of Glenn Middleton come on leaps and bounds under his watchful eye.
