The former Liverpool starlet is one of Wolves’ key players and in a new position to boot.

Among all the inconsistency this season, the influx of foreign imports, the raft of January departures and the selection dilemmas in between, Conor Coady has been a pillar of consistency throughout.

The former Liverpool youth captain has started 27 Championship games this season and, under Paul Lambert, has become one of the first names on the team-sheet and rightly so.

Shifted to an unfamiliar right-back role by Paul Lambert in December, he has jostled for the starting berth with natural defender and England Under-21 international Dominic Iorfa while blocking a route to the first team for former Benfica and Atletico Madrid star Silvio.

In truth, it’s understandable why Coady does not get the credit he deserves. He is the very definition of solid rather than spectacular and, with the likes of Helder Costa offering moments of magic on an almost weekly basis and Ivan Cavaleiro starting to improve, the 24-year-old’s performances can fly under the radar.

Yet, there’s a reason that Lambert immediately made Coady one of his go-to players after arriving at Molineux in October. Because, scrapping away at the bottom of the table, character and consistency is as important as quality.

According to WhoScored, Coady’s performances at right-back have been more impressive statistically than his displays in his natural central midfield position. While he is yet to make the role ‘his own’, he has certainly provided Lambert with plenty of food for thought going forward.
