Scottish Premiership giants Rangers paid £1.5m to sign Scotland international Graham Dorrans from Norwich City in the summer.

Rangers were understandably delighted when they finally pulled off an eye-catching deal to sign Graham Dorrans in July.

The Gers made a number of bids for the Norwich City midfielder, a Scotland international who spent his youth cheering his side on from the Ibrox terraces, before agreeing a £1.5 million fee, as reported by the Daily Record.

So far, however, the 30-year-old has played only minor role in Rangers’ resurgence. He might have scored five times in ten league appearances but has not featured since Graeme Murty replaced Pedro Caixinha in the dugout in late October due to injury.

Reports, however, have suggested that Dorrans is at last nearing a return. But it is a credit to how much Rangers have improved in his absence that the former West Brom midfielder is far from guaranteed a place back in the starting XI.

After all, January signing Greg Docherty (below) and Sean Goss have been absolutely superb since arriving from QPR and Hamilton respectively. Goss is a real metronome in the centre of the park who keeps Rangers ticking while Docherty’s energy has made him the perfect fit for Murty’s style.

In the meantime, Josh Windass has evolved into Scotland’s most fearsome goal-scoring midfielder.

So it is not certain just how Dorrans fits into Murty’s plans at present. As talented as the £1.5 million man is, it would seem very harsh to drop anyone to make way for his return at present.
