Championship side Nottingham Forest did not even consider keeping former Napoli striker Nicolao Dumitru at the City Ground.

When you look back at who Nottingham Forest signed in the summer of 2016, it is perhaps no surprise that they went into the final day of last season embroiled in a relegation dog-fight.
The likes of flappy-handed goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic, error-prone defender Thomas Lam, seldom-seen Lica and the wildly erratic Mustapha Carayol all arrived at the City Ground during the days of Philippe Montanier.
But Nicolao Dumitru was probably the worst of the lot.

Eyebrows were raised when the 26-year-old joined Forest from none other than Serie A giants Napoli on a season-long loan – even if he had made just nine league appearances for the Partonopei in seven years at the club.
And Forest fans quickly discovered why Dumitru never made the grade at the same club that boasted the likes of Dries Mertens, Lorenzo Insigne and Marek Hamsik.
The Swedish-born Italian managed only 10 Championship appearances for Forest, scoring just once, and was not mourned by any when he was ushered out the exit door the following May.

It will come as no surprise, then, to learn that Dumitru hasn’t exactly set the world alight since finally leaving Napoli on a permanent basis. He joined Spanish second tier side Alcocorn but, just six months into a two-year deal, was on the move again joining Gimnastic.
And things haven’t gone much better there either. He has been left out of their last two matchday squads and, overall, has just three goals in 20 games in all competitions in 2017/18 during spells at two different clubs.
