Premier League duo Newcastle United and West Brom had hoped to lure Andre Schurrle back to the Premier League from Bundesliga giants Dortmund.

If Andriy Yarmolenko had not suffered an injury just before transfer deadline day, Andre Schurrle might be fighting for Premier League survival with Newcastle United or West Brom right now.
And Dortmund, who signed Schurrle from Wolfsburg for a club-record fee of £26.7 million in the summer of 2016, were willing to let the former Chelsea winger go. That, in itself, is a reflection of just how disappointing he had been since moving to the Signal Iduna Park.

Until now, that is.
Schurrle is enjoying something of a renaissance in black and yellow right now. After his late winner against Cologne a week ago, Schurrle turned provider on Saturday setting up Mario Gotze’s clinching goal in a 2-0 triumph over Hamburg with a beautifully weighted pass.

And, unsurprisingly, Schurrle was the talk of Twitter post-game, with BVB fans lauding the 27-year-old for turning around a Dortmund career that looked all but over a few weeks ago.
Newcastle and West Brom then, two sides in need of a little creativity and pace in the final third, should be disappointed that they failed to lure Schurrle back to England on recent evidence.
