Croatia’s number one Kalinic is reportedly a target for Premier League quartet Spurs, Arsenal, Watford and Crystal Palace.

It was a mixed international break for Croatia. Just three days after securing a famous 3-2 win against Spain, they were relegated from the top tier of the Nations League after a dramatic 2-1 loss to England at Wembley.

Nonetheless, it seems that goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic caught the eye during his nation’s last two fixtures. The giant, 6ft 5ins goalkeeper has been linked with four Premier League clubs, Tottenham, Arsenal, Watford and Crystal Palace by The Sun (November 18, page 65) and is currently playing his football in Belgium with Gent.

But one club’s inclusion in this reported transfer race seems very odd. Yes, Hugo Lloris has been well short of his best in recent months but there is no suggestions that Tottenham have any interest in moving on from the France World Cup winner in 2019.

Paulo Gazzaniga, meanwhile, has come on leaps and bounds this season, standing out whenever he has been given a chance and even made his Argentina debut during the 2-0 win against Mexico on Wednesday.

Yes, Michel Vorm is out of contract and expected to leave North London but it would be very unfair, and rather nonsensical, to drop Gazzaniga down to third choice again by signing Kalinic.

20-year-old Alfie Whiteman, who signed a new contract in October, should be given the chance to step up the pecking order instead.
