Premier League giants Spurs were reportedly keeping tabs on Bayer Leverkusen’s Bundesliga wonderkid Kai Havertz in October 2017.

Kai Havertz of Leverkusen controls the ball during the Bundesliga match between Bayer 04 Leverkusen and FC Augsburg at BayArena on December 8, 2018 in Leverkusen, Germany.

Kai Havertz has been hugely impressive ever since forcing his way into the Bayer Leverkusen first-team as a precocious 17-year-old two years ago. But he has taken his game to a whole new level in 2018/19.

Havertz has been the shining light of an under-performing Leverkusen side, scoring seven goals and producing six assists in just 20 games in all competitions.

As a result, his price tag has skyrocketed with the Bundesliga giants obviously feeling that they can now demand top dollar for a player who, along with Leroy Sane, might just be the most exciting young talent to emerge out of Germany in the last five years.

Le10 Sport claim that Leverkusen wouldn’t sell Havertz for a penny less than £72 million. So Tottenham Hotspur must be kicking themselves.

Because, 14 months ago, Sky Sports claimed that the languid midfielder was being watched by the North London giants alongside the likes of Donny Van der Beek and Justin Kluivert.

Back then, Havertz was just starting to establish himself as a regular in the Leverkusen starting XI – these days he is one of the most promising midfielders anywhere in Europe and quite possibly out of Tottenham’s reach.

Le10 Sports add that PSG are interested and it goes without saying that a club who signed Neymar and Kylian Mbappe for almost £400 million have the backing to blow Tottenham out of the water.
