Is Abdoulaye Doucoure now Tottenham’s best bet after Kondogbia news?

Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur are looking to replace Mousa Dembele, with Watford’s Doucoure and Valencia’s Kondogbia in demand.

Mousa Dembele has been in fantastic form of late, dominating the centre of the park against Arsenal, Liverpool and Juventus.

But with the Belgian’s contract due to expire at the end of next season, it seems that Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen to plan ahead and sign a replacement as soon as possible.

And two names keep cropping up: Geoffrey Kondogbia and Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Pochettino was spotted in the Vicarage Road stands as Watford hosted Chelsea in February and, according to the Mirror, he was there to keep an eye on the French powerhouse Doucoure. He could hardly have picked a better time to watch the former Granada loanee.

Doucoure was the best player on the pitch, providing the platform for Watford’s 4-1 win with a display of industry and inspiration that Dembele would have been proud of.

Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United are also keen on the £20 million-rated midfielder, as reported by the Sun, but Doucoure’s importance to Tottenham’s summer plans might just have been increased.

Because, according to Super Deporte, Valencia have decided to pay the £22.5 million fee required to make Kondogbia’s loan move from Inter Milan permanent this summer.

Sky Sports claimed that Pochettino had been hoping to swoop for the Frenchman, who he has been targeting since his Monaco days, with Kondogbia in the form of his life on the Castellon coast.

But now Kondogbia looks out of reach, this should be the trigger for Spurs to go all out for Doucoure.
