For the second time, Tottenham Hotspur are allegedly attempting to lure Max Kruse to England after a nine-goal Bundesliga season with Werder Bremen.

If the name Max Kruse feels familiar to Tottenham Hotspur fans, there is a reason why.

According to Sky Sports Germany, Spurs are battling Inter Milan to sign the gifted forward on a free transfer this summer as Werder Bremen desperately try to tie him down to a new deal.

At 31, Kruse is far from the typical Daniel Levy signing. But Mauricio Pochettino still needs competition for Harry Kane and the 14-time Germany international could be exactly that.

Kruse has fired Bremen into European contention with another fine individual season, netting his eighth and ninth of the campaign in sublime style in the 3-1 win at Bayer Leverkusen prior to the international break.

The first was a crisp and clinical finish into the bottom corner, the second a glorious chip over the stranded goalkeeper.

But Tottenham have history with Kruse – and it might not bode well.

As reported by the Express, the versatile forward rejected a move to White Hart Lane back in 2015 when he decided to swap Borussia Monchengladbach for Wolfsburg instead. The Wolves paid £9 million to trigger Kruse’s release clause, as reported by the Mail.

But as he enters the autumn of his career, Kruse might not get a better chance to play for a club of Tottenham’s stature.
